It is hard for some to imagine, but in less than two weeks, the 2012 holiday season in the United States officially kicks off with Black Friday. In fact, many companies are already creating buzz online with “pre-Black Friday” deals. With so many new phones hitting the market in 2012, here’s a guide to the five hottest options that people will be asking for.

Apple iPhone 5

It’s hard to think of a more requested smartphone than the latest version released by Apple. The iPhone 5 is still new and hot, which could make it difficult to find when it gets closer and closer to the holiday season.

Owners are very pleased with the new design of the screen, as well as the always-desirable iOS. Yes, perhaps there are phones on the market that have better specs, but Apple is still the leader when it comes to smartphone requests.

Samsung Galaxy S3

Sporting a huge 4.8 HD display, the Samsung Galaxy S3 stands out against its competitors. The big screen is not for everyone though, but it has been popular enough to sell 35 million units just a few months after release. Demand continues to grow, so this is another phone that might tougher to find once the holiday season kicks into high gear.

Nokia Lumia 920

Despite not getting the fanfare of the two phones already listed, the Nokia Lumia 920 is one of the most recent releases in the smartphone market. The Window 8 handsets are designed to get Nokia back into the game, and it has received some great reviews so far. Their screen comes close to the Samsung Galaxy S3, and their 8.7MP camera is really helping to blur the line between stand alone and cell phone cameras.

Both the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X share many qualities, and currently it’s a bit hard picking which one will do better during the holiday season. The screen is close to .5 inches smaller, which is good or bad depending on what a person is looking for. Prices for the HTC 8X are also much more reasonable than the other options, so this phone should do great for the crowd wanting a smartphone but not wanting to spend too much.

Galaxy Note 2

Those people who want the best technology available when it comes to a smartphone should consider the Galaxy Note 2 this holiday season. With as much as 128 GB of storage on it, this phone is basically a pocket computer. The quad-core 1.6 GHz Samsung Exynos 4412 Cortex-A9 chipset and 2 GB of RAM might not impress the average user, but tech lovers are simply amazed with how much they have packed into this small package.
